A Dutch family decided to support the Posidonia project, protecting the Posidonia sea plant that plays among other things an important role with the purification of the crystal-clear water in the Balearics. They donated 1,3 million euros and this first investment is only the beginning – the project is being supported by hotels in the Balearics and there are other international foundations that prioritized the Posidonia. Besides these, the marine biologist and economist Josep Aniol keeps on searching for more private investors. 3 to 5 million euros per year will be needed to reach a high impact of preservation of the marine, but the amount invested by the Dutch are a very well beginning.
Save the Posidonia
The project was also being presented at Spain’s largest international tourism fair Fitur in Madrid, to explain the new edition of the program “Save the Posidonia”: a campaign to raise consciousness to preserve the protected sea plant.
The programme actions include among other things free kayak visits to the Posidonia meadows, responsibility of the hospitality sector working with sustainable fish providers as well as several actions of small entrepreneurs such as the prestigious jewelers Elisa Pomar and Enric Majoral who are producing a jewelry collection inspired by the important Mediterranean sea plant.
